Custom portrait orders are only open periodically. I generally take all the orders in large batches and then spend the next 2-3 months working on those before orders open again. To stay up-to-date with when orders are open you can sign up for my newsletter and also follow me on Facebook or Instagram where I keep fans updated.
When orders are open then you'll be able to check out with one of my custom portrait options HERE. If orders are closed then I keep the available quantities set to 0 so you will not be able to add them to your cart (I still keep them posted so people can see prices). You will also see a large red banner across the top of my website when orders are open.
How can I place my order during the booking period?
You can order on my website HERE or shoot me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org and I can email you an invoice. With the email invoices you have the option to pay only half down. You must make at least a 50% deposit to get on the list. Simply discussing a portrait with me does not hold your spot in line.
How long is the waiting period?
This entirely depends on when you get your order in during one of my booking periods. I simply go down my list of portraits in the order they were received. If you are one of the first then you could have your portrait within 2-3 weeks. But it can be up to 3 months if you are far down on the waiting list.
Do you work from photos?
Yes! If you have a particular photo in mind you can send that one OR send a variety and I can help you figure out what would make a good drawing. I need clear photos in good light. The best light is natural light on an overcast day. For the caricature style portraits, the more photos the better! It helps me to see the pup’s personality so send photos that really showcase WHO they are!
What is a good size to order?
That entirely depends on what you are wanting. The 8x10" is a very common size. If you are wanting multiple subjects in the drawing then I always recommend bumping up to the 9x12”. Even larger sizes are available so feel free to message me if you’d like more price quotes.
Can I get a portrait in color?
The color editing is a fun add-on available! All of the custom orders are ORIGINAL pencil drawings. But then I scan the drawing into my computer and use Photoshop to add fun colors and a background to it. This add-on option is $100 to cover my time spend on the digital editing. Once that is complete I’ll upload the color version to my website where you can order prints (you’ll be able to choose from a variety of sizes and pick between paper or canvas prints!)
Of course! For the more animated caricature style portraits I will always send you my initial sketch to make sure you like how I’ve depicted the dog. Then oftentimes I share progress to my stories on my Facebook and Instagram page. If you don’t want progress shared on social media (if the drawing is a gift for someone) then let me know this when you order.
Will you post it to social media?
I usually post finished products to my social media accounts for advertising. If your order is a surprise gift for someone then PLEASE LET ME KNOW beforehand so that I can be sure to keep any updates hidden from public view. I would hate to ruin a surprise! And after you have gifted the portrait please let me know so I can share my work with the world!
How do you ship?
I generally ship by USPS Priority Mail. If you wish for an alternative carrier just let me know. I'm pretty flexible with
